Inauguration of the new Members’ Gallery with Gatineau-based artist, curator and performer Olivier Serge Fokoua with his project Synchronisme.
Serge Olivier Fokoua was born in 1976 in Douala, lives and works between Cameroon and Gatineau. He received his artistic training at the University of Yaoundé, and through workshops at the Yaoundé Spanish Embassy. Working mainly in installation and performance, Serge Olivier Fokoua’s work has been presented in numerous art exhibitions and projects in Cameroon, Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal, France, Germany, Japan, Poland, Canada and Finland. In 2011, he presented his work in Québec City at Le Lieu Centre en art actuel and in Victoriaville at Grave. In 2013, he was awarded a residency fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center in the United States. Fokoua is a co-founding member of Les Palettes du Kamer collective and, since 2008, he has been the Artistic Director of the Biennale RAVY: Yaoundé Visual Art Encounters. Since 2006, he has been a member of IC Zone, an international network of festivals and art centres and has invited over 20 artists and international curators to Cameroon. Currently, he is actively working on multiple platforms for artistic exchange between Cameroon and several countries.
